Bobrisky removed from Amsterdam-bound flight

A viral video on X has captured the moment social media personality Okuneye Idris, better known as Bobrisky, was removed from a KLM flight heading to Amsterdam yesterday night.

This incident followed a post by social commentator Isaac Fayose, brother of former Ekiti State Governor, who shared a photo of himself alongside Bobrisky as they prepared to board the same flight to London. โ€œLook whoโ€™s on the same flight with me to London, @Bobrisky222,โ€ Fayose wrote on Instagram.

However, a subsequent viral video, which circulated on X, showed Bobrisky being escorted off the flight by airport personnel, who reportedly said he was attempting to travel to London.

After his removal, Bobrisky took to Instagram to inform his followers of the situation, alleging that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was behind his detention. He stated, โ€œNigerians help me, EFCC just arrested me. Iโ€™m badly injured.โ€

This latest incident follows his prior encounter at the Sรจme border on October 22, where he was reportedly attempting to leave the country. Bobrisky has been under investigation since an audio recording emerged in which he allegedly claimed that he was granted permission to serve his six-month prison sentence outside Kirikiri due to his โ€œinfluential connections.โ€

The controversy surrounding Bobrisky dates back to April 2024, when he was sentenced to six months in jail by the Federal High Court in Lagos for naira abuse.

Yesterday, EFCCโ€™s Director of Public Affairs, Wilson Uwajaren, confirmed that the investigation into the allegations against Bobrisky was still ongoing.

He noted that if the accusations against the EFCC were proven false, Bobrisky could face new charges.

A voice recording shared by controversial social critic Martins Otse (also known as VeryDarkMan) purportedly features Bobrisky claiming he bribed EFCC officials with N15 million to dismiss money laundering charges against him. The EFCC has denied these allegations but has established a committee to investigate the matter.

In an update, Uwajaren mentioned that providing false information to the EFCC could result in charges, emphasizing that making false allegations against the agency is taken seriously.

He stated, โ€œThere is a portion of the EFCC Act that states if you give false information, you can be prosecuted. However, in this case, it pertains to an allegation against the agency. I donโ€™t want to preempt the panel investigating the matter, but we will provide a briefing on the findings once the investigation is complete.โ€
