The Abia State Government has organized an Inaugural Human Capital Development workshop to strengthen the capacity of its citizens in various sectors of the economy.
The workshop, held on Thursday, aligns with the Federal Government-supported Human Capital Development Programme, a national initiative aimed at enhancing citizens’ skills and capabilities through targeted investments in education, vocational training, and economic empowerment.
Declaring the Workshop open, Abia State Deputy Governor, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, said the event not only represents an investment in the State’s future but also a demonstration of the present administration’s commitment to empowering Abians to reach their fullest potentials.
Emetu who doubled as Chairman Abia State Human Capital Development Council, informed that the State was among the 14 states selected for the Federal Government-supported Human Capital Development Program.
“This workshop is being organized to unite stakeholders from education, entrepreneurship, and health to cooperate on solutions tailored to the specific needs of the Abian workforce and its youth. The program aims to align the workforce capabilities with modern economic demands, ensuring that Abians are equipped to excel, innovate, and contribute positively to the society. I encourage each participant to make the most of this opportunity by engaging fully”, Emetu stated.
The Chairman , Civil Service Commission and State Focal Person, Human Capital Development, Dr Eno Jerry-Eze, in her speech, said the program was a shared commitment to invest in the people of Abia State. She said the HCD in Abia focuses on critical areas of health, nutrition, education, workforce participation, social inclusion, social empowerment and gender empowerment.
“It’s a program from the National Economic Council in Abuja, and me being the focal person for Abia State, the idea is to promote what it is that we’re already doing because our governor is already doing things about the human capital development. So why we are here is just to synergize what we are doing.
We get all these different ministries that form the thematic area, so we have health and nutrition, we have labor, and we have education. So right now what we are doing is to collaborate and make sure that each of them in their budgets include human capital development initiatives”, Eno said.
