THREE brothers from the same mother have tragically become victims of ongoing violent cult attacks in Awka, the capital of Anambra State.
The most recent victim, Nonso, was murdered in broad daylight this afternoon near the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital in Amaku, Awka.
A close family source revealed that Nonso’s death is connected to the earlier killing of his younger brother, Buchi, three months ago near the Mac Don Eatery area. Their eldest brother was also violently killed in a previous incident, leaving their mother grief-stricken and without any children.
This recent event has raised the toll of cult-related violence in Awka to at least twenty deaths over the last few weeks.
The resurgence of violence has rekindled painful memories of the Nibo Massacre and the Ifite killings, which have deeply affected the community. Cult violence has been a persistent issue in Anambra State, with Awka at the center of the turmoil.
Rival cult factions are engaged in a fierce struggle for territory, leading to significant loss of life and leaving families devastated and the community in distress.
Anambra State Police Commissioner Nnaghe Obono Itam has condemned the murder, promising a thorough investigation and asserting that the police will do everything possible to apprehend those responsible and ensure justice is served.
The Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo has also called for calm and assuring citizens of enhanced security measures, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to restoring peace in Awka.
As relatives and community members gather to support the grieving mother of three sons, residents are calling for immediate action to curb the rising wave of senseless killings and restore tranquility to the city.
