FORMER Delta State Deputy Governor Amos Utuama (SAN) has passed away at the age of 77.
Utuama died in Warri, Delta State, during the early hours of today following a prolonged illness.
He was a distinguished law professor who served as the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of the state from 1999 to 2007. He later held the position of deputy governor from 2007 to 2015 under former Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan.
In light of his passing, Delta Governor Sheriff Oborevwori expressed condolences to Utuama’s family through a statement from his Chief Press Secretary, Festus Ahon.
“The late Utuama was a world-class academic whose teachings and research greatly enriched the Nigerian legal profession and jurisprudence,” the statement noted.
“On behalf of the government and people of Delta, I mourn the loss of a distinguished gentleman, scholar, and astute politician, Professor Amos Agbe Utuama, SAN, who passed away in Warri on Saturday.”
“I received the heartbreaking news of his death with profound shock. He was a dignified politician and scholar who made significant contributions to his community, first serving as Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, and subsequently as Deputy Governor.”
“Throughout his tenure, Prof. Utuama demonstrated a steadfast commitment to the unity and advancement of the state.”
The Governor prayed for God to accept the soul of the deceased and to grant strength to the family and friends he leaves behind to cope with the loss.
