Abia PDP Elects Abraham Amah As New State Chairman

On Monday, the Abia State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party announced a new leadership after its congress.

Elder Abraham Amah was declared as its new state chairman.

The State Congress, held on Sunday, saw a large turnout of party members, including former Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu and officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

NewsNGR observed that the congress extended into the night but ensured that all necessary protocols were followed to make the process as smooth as possible.

Elder Abraham Amah, from Ihechiowa in Arochukwu local government area of Abia State, the partyโ€™s former Vice chairman and acting Publicity Secretary in the state, pulled a total of 1,264 votes, defeating his closest rival, Olugu Kalu, who pulled 395. Others who contested for the office includes James Okpara, Godwin Okoro, Kingsley Imaga, Olugu Kalu Ogba and Chief Ukwu Rocks Emma.

Speaking to Newsmen shortly after the congress, Amah thanked the partyโ€™s stakeholders and delegates for choosing him. He promised to work on engaging with members and reconciling those who are unhappy.

โ€œWe will re-echo the ideas and vision of the founding fathers and as well, bring back those that left the party, to make it stronger. This is a new dawn for Abia PDP,โ€ he said.

The electionโ€™s returning officer, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, who is also the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, praised the delegates for being peaceful, which he said helped the election go smoothly. He added, โ€œI congratulate the winners, what happened here today shows that we are ready to take back power from the people we lent it to come 2027.โ€

Senator Austin Akobundu, who represents Abia Central Senatorial District, thanked the delegates for their peaceful behavior and said the Congress reflected the partyโ€™s ideals. He praised the transparent process and encouraged the winners to include everyone, saying, โ€œThe winner wins for everybody.โ€

Other Zonal leaders of PDP who were elected on Sunday are, Onwuka Kalu elected as Chairman of Abia Central, Enyinnaya Appolos Chairman of Abia South, while Abia Elendu Kalu Elendu was elected the Chairman of Abia North.

Chief John Okiyi-Kalu, a former Commissioner for Information, urged the new state executives to focus on bringing back those who had left the party due to grievances and Work hard to Unite the party.

โ€œThe future of the party starts from the emergence of the new leaders,โ€ he said.
