Man docked over alleged assault with dangerous weapon in Ogun

A 57-year-old man, Taofeek Saula, on Tuesday appeared before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun, for allegedly assaulting a man with a dangerous weapon.

Saula, whose address was not provided, is facing a four-count charge of assault, threat to life, conspiracy and malicious damage.

The prosecutor, Insp E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant and others still at large, committed the offences sometime in 2007, at Anglican road, Ota, Ogun.

Adaraloye said that the defendant, during an argument, assaulted the complainant, Adebowale Adewale, with a dangerous weapon and inflicted injury on him in the process.

He said that the defendant unlawfully entered the complainant’s land leading to the argument.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 81, 252, 335 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Mrs O. O. Fadairo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with a surety in like sum.

She said that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to the Ogun government.

The magistrate adjourned the case until November 19 for further hearing.
