I’m Still Labour Party Member – Gov Clarifies

Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti has said he remains a member of the Labour Party despite the party not winning any local government seat in the just concluded council elections.

Governor Otti stated this during the monthly media parley held at government house in Umuahia on Thursday night.

In his words: “I can assure you that I’m still in the Labour Party, the crisis of our party made our supporters go elsewhere.

“When I left PDP to join APGA, our people followed me and I won that election then… APGA has not won even one Councillor seat before that time and then we took almost half of the Assembly seats in 2015, so, maybe people don’t understand that political parties are just platforms.”

Recall that in Abia state local government elections held November 2, the Labour Party couldn’t win any LGA seat as the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) won 15 LGA seats while Young Progressives Party (YPP) won 2 LGA seats which when put together, rounds up the 17 LGAs of Abia State.

Governor Otti also admitted that he authorised his followers to join any political party of their choice to pursue their ambition, which obviously connects to the crisis in the Labour Party.

“I authorised my followers to join any political party that they like and majority of them went into other political parties.

“Of course, the Labour Party presented candidates and the rest is now history.

“I remain in the Labour Party and any time I’m going to leave, that is if any need to leave, you will be properly informed,” Governor Otti said.
