In a move to honour the legacy of the first Executive Governor of Abia State, the late Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, Governor Alex Otti has announced the renaming of Abia State Polytechnic to Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba.
Governor Otti announced on Thursday at the inter-denominational church service, held in honour of the former governor at the International Conference Centre in Umuahia.
During his tenure as governor, Dr. Onu established the polytechnic as a centre of excellence for technical and vocational education in the state.
The solemn occasion brought together prominent individuals like Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, former Senate President, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, former Governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Udo Oko Chukwu, former Deputy Governor of Abia State, Ambassador Emuche, and Secretary-General Ohaneze Ndi Igbo, amongst other dignitaries, were present to pay their final respects to the former governor.
