Several shops housing furniture items were destroyed on Thursday in a fire incident that occurred at Ojota New Garage in Lagos State.
The inferno destroyed furniture items worth millions of Naira.
It was gathered that the fire was caused by a power surge from a transformer near the shops.
Confirming the incident, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said no casualties or injuries were recorded in the incident.
He explained that upon arrival of LASEMAโs Response Team at the incident scene, โIt was discovered several shops used for the production and sales of furniture items were engulfed by fire at the aforementioned location.โ
Oke-Osanyintolu added, โInvestigations conducted by the LRT revealed that the immediate cause of the inferno was electricity power surge from the power transformer stationed beside the shops.โ
However, emergency responders were able to put out the fire, preventing it from spreading across multiple areas and causing more damage.
Todayโs incident happened just a few days after a Sunday night fire outbreak at Ajah Market in the state destroyed properties worth a fortune.
The blaze engulfed several shops and stores housing combustible materials within the market, resulting in extensive damage.
