Ijaw Youth Council Urges Unity, Condemns Protests Against NDDC Leadership

The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) has strongly condemned the recent calls for protests against the Chairman and Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Chiedu Ebie and Samuel Ogbuku.

In a statement, Bedford Berefa Benjamin, spokesperson for the IYC, described the protests as โ€œa joke taken too far,โ€ emphasizing the need for unity and cooperation among Ijaw people.

According to Benjamin, the constant attempts to pull down top political office holders and high-profile personalities from the region are unbecoming, unreasonable, and shameful.

He noted that a court of competent jurisdiction has already given a verdict on the matter, rendering further protests unnecessary and potentially harmful.

The IYC spokesperson highlighted Dr Ogbukuโ€™s leadership role as a product of the struggle for self-determination and resource control, emphasizing that allegations against him are mere fabrications sponsored by disgruntled elements.

Benjamin urged Ijaw youths to channel their energy towards more constructive endeavours, promoting unity and cooperation.

Instead of protests, the IYC advocates for dialogue and negotiation to address regional concerns.
