Russia has refuted media reports that President Vladimir Putin spoke with U.S. President-elect, Donald Trump, last week.
Reuters and The Washington Post had reported over the weekend that the pair spoke on Thursday, the first phone conversation between them after the election on Tuesday.
According to the report, Trump who made the call from his resort in Florida, advised the Russian president not to escalate the war in Ukraine, reminding him of US sizable military presence in Europe.
The report claimed the pair also spoke about restoring peace in the European continent with Trump expressing an interest in follow-up conversations to discuss “the resolution of Ukraine’s war soon,” an unnamed source said.
However, on Monday, November 11, Kremlin spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, said no such call had taken place.
Speaking to reporters, Peskov said, “This is completely untrue. This is pure fiction, it’s just false information. There was no conversation.”
“This is the most obvious example of the quality of the information that is being published now, sometimes even in fairly reputable publications.
According to Peskov, “There are no concrete plans yet” for Putin to contact Trump.
During his campaign, Trump said he could end the war in Ukraine “in a day”, but did not offer details about how he intended to do so. He hinted at the possibility of securing a deal that might make Ukraine cede part of their land to Russia
