Jaywon issues apology to Ayra Starr amid Grammy backlash

Nigerian artist Jaywon has issued an apology to fellow singer Ayra Starr after being accused of mocking her for not receiving a Grammy nomination. Recently, the nominees for the 67th Grammy Awards were announced, and despite Ayra Starrโ€™s impressive achievements this year, she did not secure a nomination.

Following the announcement, Jaywon, who has had an ongoing online dispute with Ayra Starr, posted a photo of himself holding two Grammy awards. Many interpreted this as a subtle jab at Ayra Starr, prompting backlash from fans and observers.

In response to the criticism, Jaywon publicly apologized, stating his admiration for Ayra Starr and acknowledging her talent. He clarified that his intention was never to demean her, emphasizing his commitment to uplifting others.

โ€œIf you see Ayra Starr, tell her Iโ€™m sorry she wasnโ€™t nominated for this yearโ€™s Grammys. Iโ€™m a huge fan of her music, and I believe sheโ€™s one of the best female vocalists Africa has,โ€ he wrote. โ€œOn this side, we donโ€™t pull people down. We elevate, not just for today, but for the future. Ola Inu Kan.โ€

Jaywon is a voting member of the Recording Academy, which oversees the Grammy Awards.
