THE Super Eagles secured their passage to the Morocco 2025 Africa Cup of Nations today without even kicking a ball.
The three-time African champions are scheduled to face Benin Republic later tonight but Libya defeated their hosts Rwanda 1-0 in the evening to ensure Nigeria’s qualification.
Fahd Al-Mesmary scored the only goal of the match in the 84th minute, four minutes after coming on as a substitute, to end Rwanda’s chances of catching up with Nigeria.
With the result, the Super Eagles are guaranteed to finish in the top two in Group D, regardless of the results of their final two fixtures against Benin Republic in Abidjan tonight and Rwanda in Uyo on Monday.
Nigeria lead the qualifying group standings with 10 points from four matches, with Benin second four points behind, having played the same number of games.
Rwanda are third with five points from five games, one point ahead of Libya, who have also played five games.
The top two teams after six rounds of matches with advance to the 2025 AFCON scheduled for Morocco in December 2025 and January 2026.
