The Lagos State Government has announced the diversion of traffic from the outbound Apapa lane of the Marine Bridge to facilitate urgent repairs on the asphalt section of the road.
The traffic diversion will begin on Monday, November 18, 2024, and is expected to last until Tuesday, February 25, 2025.
This development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, on Friday.
Osiyemi urged motorists to utilize alternative routes to avoid congestion in the affected areas.
To ease the impact of the diversion, motorists traveling from Apapa to Lagos Island are advised to take these routes:
- Option 1: Use Costain Roundabout to access Eko Bridge and connect Lagos Island.
- Option 2: Navigate through Ijora 7-Up via Marine Bridge, accessing the ramp that links Ijora Causeway Access Road, then proceed through Ijora Oloye to Eko Bridge.
For motorists traveling to Ijora Causeway or Iddo from Apapa, the suggested routes are:
Option 1: Take Costain Roundabout to Eko Bridge, then access Ijora Causeway via the Eko Bridge ramp. Make a U-turn on Ijora Causeway to proceed to Iddo.
- Option 2: Utilize Ijora 7-Up through Marine Bridge to connect the Ijora Causeway Access Road via Ijora Oloye, and continue to Iddo.
The traffic diversion will affect only routes leading to Ijora Olopa, while motorists heading to Costain via Sifax will still have access.
To minimize inconvenience, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) personnel will be deployed to key points along the diversion routes to ensure smooth vehicular movement.
Osiyemi assured residents that the repair work, undertaken by the Federal Ministry of Works through the Office of the Federal Controller, Lagos, will be closely monitored to ensure timely completion.
“Motorists are implored to be patient as the diversion is part of traffic management plans for the rehabilitation works on the asphalt pavement of the road sections,” he stated.
The Lagos State Government remains committed to enhancing the road infrastructure and ensuring minimal disruption during the repair period.
