Bandits kill farmer, abduct six in Taraba community

Bandits have killed a farmer and abducted six others in Garbatau, a village in Bali local government area of Taraba State.

The deceased, identified as Alhaji Mai Wanda Maibultu, was reportedly attacked and killed on his farm by the bandits.

A source said that Maibultu, a prominent large-scale farmer, resided in a village a few kilometres from Garba Chede town, while the six abducted farmers were seized along Garbatau village, a farming settlement situated between two mountains.

The source further explained that a resident of Maihula town, Adamu Dauda, disclosed that the kidnappers had contacted the families of the victims, demanding a ransom of N100 million.

He stated, โ€œsimilar attacks occurred around this time last year when hundreds of kidnappers invaded the area, abducting dozens of farmers and disrupting the harvest season.โ€

He lamented that history appeared to be repeating itself, with the kidnappers once again halting farmersโ€™ efforts to harvest their crops by killing and abducting others.

The Taraba State Police Command spokesman, SP Usman Abdullahi, did not respond to inquiries made to ascertain the true situation.
