A 51-year-old man, Sunday Abioye, who recently returned from the United States, was found dead in a hotel room in Sagamu, Ogun State.
His body was reportedly discovered yesterday in his room at a hotel in the GRA area of Sagamu.
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident in a statement from Abeokuta, the state capital.
According to Odutola, the hotelโs Chief Security Officer, Oluwole, reported the case to the police, leading detectives to the scene.
Upon arrival, the deceasedโs body was found outside the hotel, already placed in a car by family members preparing to transport it to the morgue.
The deceasedโs brother, Jimoh Godday, who lives in Imota, Lagos State, informed the police that Sunday had arrived in Nigeria from the USA on Saturday, November 16, 2024.
On Monday, Godday visited the hotel and, after receiving no response at room 109, requested a spare key from the manager. Inside, he discovered his brotherโs lifeless body.
Police recovered various drugs and traditional medicines from the room and noted that the bedโs center was soaked with a liquid substance.
A friend of the deceased, Ogunmonti Ogunwole, confirmed accompanying Sunday to purchase nine types of medication the previous day due to health complaints.
The body has been transported to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital Morgue in Sagamu for an autopsy.
While the cause of death remains unknown, the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
