Gang member killed in Police shootout

A notorious gang member, Duncan Mwaba, commonly known as Shimpundu, who has been on the police wanted list for a while now, met his demise yesterday, November 28, 2024, in a shootout with police after he and his gand planned to break into a shop at Twikatane Mall in Zingalume.

According to Police Public Relations Officer Rae Hamoonga, police, acting on intelligence, intercepted the planned break in and apprehended Charles Mbewe Daka, a 31-year-old associate of the deceased, who was found with three small explosives.

Daka revealed that he was scheduled to meet Mwaba to plan their criminal activities, leading to an ambush being set up in the SOS area.

When confronted by officers, Mwaba, the deceased attempted to flee, despite three warning shots being fired.
He was eventually shot but continued to flee, only to be found severely bleeding in the SOS area flowers where he was hiding.

He was rushed to Matero Level One Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

โ€œInvestigations have linked Mwabaโ€™s group to multiple robberies, including those at Zanaco Express in Chibombo, Pep Store in Kitwe, and Puma Filling Station in Choma. They had also planned to target several other establishments, including a shop at Twikatane Mall and Natsave Bank in Chilenjeโ€, said Mr Hamoonga.
