National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu has reiterated Nigeria’s zero-tolerance stance on threats to its security, vowing that any individual or group posing a threat to the nation’s stability will face justice.
Speaking during the graduation ceremony of the Executive Intelligence Management Course 17 at the National Institute of Security Studies (NISS) in Abuja, Ribadu, representing President Bola Tinubu as the keynote speaker, highlighted the unprecedented unity among Nigeria’s security agencies.
He commended the administration’s efforts in fostering inter-agency collaboration, emphasizing its commitment to maintaining national stability.
“The unity we see today in the security sector has never happened before.
If you threaten Nigeria’s security, whether from within or outside, you will face justice — properly and fairly,” Ribadu said.
The event was attended by high-profile officials, including Vice President Kashim Shettima (represented by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike), Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa, and Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, alongside military leaders and foreign representatives.
Ribadu also paid tribute to the sacrifices of Nigeria’s security personnel, particularly the 38 soldiers who recently lost their lives in an operational accident.
He praised the recent appointment of Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi as DSS Director-General, calling it a boost for the nation’s security apparatus.
Former Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu, who chaired the ceremony, called for stricter penalties, including the death sentence, for individuals who kill security personnel.
Citing the deaths of 229 police officers in 22 months, Aliyu urged state governors to invest security votes into local security measures instead of over-relying on federal government support.
“State governors should not blame the federal government every time there is insecurity in their states.
They must take responsibility for their local security issues,” Aliyu said.
Vice President Shettima, in a speech delivered by Minister Wike, addressed the dynamic nature of global security threats, including cyber warfare, disinformation, and climate-induced migration.
He encouraged the graduates to adopt innovative strategies to transform these crises into opportunities for stability and growth.
The DSS Director-General, Ajayi, also expressed optimism about Nigeria’s security outlook, crediting the success of inter-agency collaboration for improved safety. “Together, we can win.
No security challenge can defeat us if we work together,” Ajayi said, assuring Nigerians that security efforts were yielding positive results.
The ceremony underscored the importance of international collaboration, with 91 participants from Nigeria and five other countries graduating.
Their participation highlights the global effort needed to tackle contemporary security challenges effectively.
With Nigeria’s security landscape under continuous transformation, Ribadu’s firm warning and the emphasis on inter-agency synergy signal the government’s determination to safeguard the nation against internal and external threats.
