Ex-Super Eagles Star Brown Ideye Joins Enyimba as Free Agent

Former Super Eagles forward and 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) winner Brown Ideye has joined Enyimba FC as a free agent.

The 36-year-old striker, who has been without a club since leaving Kuwaiti side Al Yarmouk in 2022, signed a short-term deal with the Nigerian champions, running until the end of the current season.

Enyimbaโ€™s Sporting Director, Ifeanyi Ekwueme, confirmed the signing, expressing optimism about Ideyeโ€™s impact:

โ€œWe are thrilled to have Brown Ideye join us. He is a legend of Nigerian football, and his experience will be invaluable to our squad as we aim for success both in the league and on the continent.โ€

The move marks a homecoming for Ideye, who last played in Nigeriaโ€™s domestic league 17 years ago with Ocean Boys, where he won a league and cup double in 2006.

Ideyeโ€™s arrival at Enyimba continues a recent trend of Super Eagles veterans returning to the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL).

He follows in the footsteps of his former national teammates Ahmed Musa and Abdullahi Shehu, both of whom currently play for Kano Pillars.

Enyimba, Nigeriaโ€™s most successful club with nine league titles, will hope that Ideyeโ€™s experience and attacking prowess bolster their chances in both domestic and continental competitions.

Fans eagerly anticipate seeing the seasoned forward don the colors of the โ€œPeopleโ€™s Elephantโ€ as he begins a new chapter in his illustrious career.
