Powerless Nation: Nigeria’s National Grid Collapses for the 12th Time in 2024

Nigerians were once again thrown into nationwide blackout on Wednesday as the national power grid suffered yet another collapse, marking the 12th incident in 2024 alone.

From January to November, the grid has failed 11 times, with three collapses recorded in just one week in October.

The recurring outages have left millions of citizens and businesses frustrated, sparking widespread criticism of the country’s electricity management system.

In a statement shared via the official National Grid platform, it was confirmed that the grid went down around 2:09 pm on Wednesday.

“A major grid setback has occurred, and restoration efforts are underway,” the announcement read.

This year’s tally of 12 collapses highlights ongoing challenges in stabilizing Nigeria’s power infrastructure, with the latest incident setting an unfortunate record in the nation’s struggle for reliable electricity.

Many Nigerians have taken to social media to express their outrage, calling for urgent reforms and accountability from relevant authorities.
