Ferrari has reached a landmark agreement to supply power units and gearboxes to Cadillac as the American manufacturer prepares to enter Formula 1 as the sport’s 11th team in 2026.
After initial skepticism from Formula 1’s management, assurances from General Motors (Cadillac’s parent company) about developing their own power units in the future helped secure approval from F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali and the sport’s governing body.
In a statement on Ferrari’s website, the Italian automaker announced:
“Ferrari announces a multi-year agreement starting from 2026 with Andretti Formula Racing LLC, regarding the supply of power unit and gearbox to the racing team led by TWG Global and General Motors, subject to Andretti Formula Racing LLC receiving written confirmation from the FIA – F1 that its entry to the 2026 FIA Formula One Championship has been accepted and approved.”
This partnership marks a significant step in Cadillac’s F1 journey, which will be spearheaded by former Manor F1 sporting director Graeme Lowdon, who has been appointed as team principal.
Meanwhile, 1978 F1 world champion Mario Andretti will serve as a key adviser to the team.
Ferrari’s agreement with Cadillac underscores the growing collaboration between established European manufacturers and new American teams in Formula 1, paving the way for a competitive grid when Cadillac debuts in 2026.
The development also comes as Formula 1 continues to expand its global appeal, with growing interest and investment from American companies driving the sport’s growth in the United States and beyond.
