The United Kingdom has praised Governor Peter Mbah’s developmental achievements in Enugu State and expressed its commitment to deepening collaboration with the state.
The commendation came from the British Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, Ms Gill Lever, during her working visit to the Government House, Enugu, on Wednesday.
Lever highlighted Mbah’s strides in infrastructure, health, water, sanitation, business, and security.
“I’m delighted to pay my first visit to Enugu State. I met the governor this afternoon, and we had a robust and thoughtful discussion about various issues,” she said.
“I commended him on the excellent work he is doing in your state – on infrastructure, on water and sanitation, on health, on business, and indeed on security, all of which are interlinked. So, I think he is doing an excellent job in serving the state very well.”
Lever also pledged the UK Government’s readiness to support Enugu’s development goals, noting the training of over 500 civil servants in digital skills to align with Mbah’s vision of transitioning from manual operations to e-governance.
“We are pleased to be partnering with the governor and are looking for opportunities for mutual growth.
“We are supporting digital programmes for civil servants to improve public service delivery in the state,” Lever added.
Governor Mbah expressed gratitude for the UK’s ongoing support, particularly in enhancing digital literacy among civil servants.
“The recent digital training for over 500 civil servants is timely as we transition to e-governance. This will help improve public service delivery, curb revenue leakages, and increase accountability,” Mbah said.
He also acknowledged the UK’s technical support through the Foreign Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO), particularly for the Enugu State Electricity Regulatory Commission, and explored avenues for further collaboration.
The British envoy’s visit concluded with a certificate presentation to participants of the second edition of the Enugu Digital Literacy Skills Training Programme, a partnership between the Enugu SME Centre, FCDO, and Tech4Dev.
