World football governing body FIFA has imposed an 18-month transfer ban on Russian club CSKA Moscow over unpaid fees in a deal involving Nigerian forward Chidera Ejuke.
The sanction arises from CSKA’s failure to pay €3 million to Dutch club Heerenveen, Ejuke’s former team, following his transfer to Moscow in 2020.
FIFA has stated that the ban will remain in effect until the outstanding amount is paid.
Chidera Ejuke, now 26, joined CSKA Moscow after a standout season with Heerenveen, where he scored 10 goals and provided six assists in just 26 appearances.
During his time in Russia, the Nigeria international recorded 10 goals and eight assists in 65 matches before departing this summer.
Ejuke’s career also saw him secure loan spells at Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin and Belgian club Royal Antwerp.
After leaving CSKA on a free transfer, he joined Spanish La Liga outfit Sevilla in June and has since scored once in nine appearances.
The sanction against CSKA highlights FIFA’s strict stance on transfer disputes, with the Russian club under pressure to resolve the matter promptly.
