Former Sports Minister, Bolaji Abdullahi dumps PDP

A former Minister of Sports, Bolaji Abdullahi, has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Bolaji, a strong loyalist of the former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, also served as Commissioner for Education under Bukolaโ€™s administration as governor of Kwara State.

He had earlier served as Senior Special Assistant on Strategy to Bukola during the early part of his administration in the state.

The former sports minister, in his resignation letter dated December 16, 2024, addressed to the Ubandawaki Ward chairman of the party in Ilorin, stated: โ€œI have had ample time to reflect, and I have come to the difficult conclusion that this is the only tenable option for me at this time.

โ€œMr Chairman, please permit me to express through you my gratitude to the leadership of the party for the opportunities that I have had to serve the state and the country on its platform and for the great moments we have shared,โ€ the letter added.

The letter was copied to the state chairman of the party and the chairman of the Ilorin West Local Government Area chapter of the party.

DAILY POST recalls that Bolaji, as the sports minister, resigned his appointment under former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan during the partyโ€™s national crisis, which led to the creation of the New PDP and the eventual defection of about five governors and other bigwigs of the party to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The defection, led by Bukola Saraki, Rotimi Amaechi, and others, contributed to the victory of former President Muhammadu Buhari in his first tenure.
