The Rivers State Government has announced the return of the Christmas Discount Market, 10 years after its last edition.
The market will open on Thursday, December 18, at the Elekahia Stadium in Port Harcourt and will run until December 28.
The Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, John Otamiri, disclosed this in an interview with Channels Television.
He said the initiative is designed to ease the financial burden on residents during the festive season, with goods sold at significantly reduced prices.
Otamiri confirmed that vendors were granted free access to the venue to ensure affordability.
โThis initiative is part of the governmentโs effort to provide relief for residents and make the festive season enjoyable for all,โ he said.
The event, last held under the administration of former Governor Rotimi Amaechi, is being revived to promote affordability and provide a festive experience for families.
The programโs consultant, Reginald Uranta, revealed that the market would also feature entertainment and recreational activities, including performances by comedians and musicians, as well as a playground for children.
โThe environment is serene, with something for everyone. Itโs not just about shopping but also creating a memorable festive atmosphere,โ Uranta stated.
The Rivers State Government assured residents of its commitment to making the program successful and impactful.
