The Delta State House of Assembly has lifted the suspension on two of its members, Dafe Chukudi and Oboro Preyor, who were suspended in November over alleged gross misconduct.
The decision to recall the lawmakers was made during a plenary session in Asaba on Tuesday, as announced by the Speaker, Dennis Guwor.
Chukudi, representing the Ukwuani constituency, was suspended on November 6 for 14 legislative days, while Preyor, who represents Bomadi, was suspended on November 12 under similar allegations.
The suspensions were a response to accusations of misconduct, which prompted the Assembly to set up an investigative committee.
“The committee, led by the Deputy Speaker, Mr. Arthur Akpowowo, has commenced its investigation into the allegations.
However, the 14-day suspension period has now elapsed,” Speaker Guwor explained.
He emphasized the need for the suspended members to resume their duties as their suspension period had officially ended.
“The suspended members are hereby recalled pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation,” Guwor stated.
Deputy Speaker Akpowowo expressed his satisfaction with the lifting of the suspension, noting that it would bring joy to the affected lawmakers.
“This is a party gift, especially as they will now celebrate Christmas and enter the New Year with relief and happiness,” Akpowowo said.
The decision to lift the suspension follows a thorough review by the Assembly, reflecting a commitment to ensuring fairness and due process in addressing internal matters.
