Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has reaffirmed his commitment to improving the state’s education sector, specifically focusing on making public schools more attractive than private institutions.
Governor Alia made this pledge while inaugurating several educational projects, including a multi-purpose hall, a transparent automated payroll system, and the groundbreaking of thirteen classroom storey buildings in Makurdi, the state capital.
Governor Alia emphasized that the government’s goal is to enhance the quality and infrastructure of public schools, ensuring that they offer better facilities and opportunities for learning than private schools.
He noted that these reforms would create an environment conducive to academic excellence, fostering a brighter future for students in the state.
The inauguration ceremony followed one year of significant reforms in Benue’s basic education system.
These reforms have been reviewed by key education stakeholders, including the Chairman of the Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Grace Adagba, as well as officials from Nasarawa State, the FCT, and the State Executive Council.
During the review, pupils showcased their academic progress, impressing the attendees with debate sessions on the topic: “Are public schools better positioned for students than private schools?”
Among the reforms introduced in the past year, Governor Alia’s administration highlighted the remodelling of SUBEB’s headquarters, the automation of the teachers’ payroll system, and the construction of new public schools.
These improvements were officially commissioned by the governor’s deputy, Sam Ode.
In addition to infrastructural improvements, the state government has placed a strong emphasis on teacher training and the integration of technology into classroom instruction.
These efforts have led to a noticeable increase in the academic performance of students across the state.
Governor Alia’s initiatives signal a transformative period for Benue’s public education system, as the government works towards creating a more attractive and efficient educational environment for all students.
