The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 4,000 personnel across the FCT and its environs to ensure a peaceful festive period.
DSC Monica Ojobi, Acting FCT Command Public Relations Officer (CDPRO), announced this in a statement on Thursday.
According to the statement, the NSCDC Commandant, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, said that the deployment is aimed at safeguarding lives and critical national assets and infrastructure during the Yuletide.
The deployment involves personnel from specialised units, including the Special Intervention Squad (Operation Adakasu), Special Female Squad (FSF), Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), Arm Squad, Agro Rangers, Special Protection Unit (SPU), Intelligence Unit, and others.
Addressing the personnel at the command headquarters, Odumosu said: โWe are aware of the peculiarities of crime perpetrated by criminals in this type of season, and we are ready to curtail any security breaches.
โThose who may want to take advantage of the festive period to undermine the governmentโs efforts by committing crime against the state and residents of the FCT are advised to have a rethink.
โProtection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure remains sacrosanct, and we will not rest until the last of the vandals leaves the FCT,โ he vowed.
Odumosu also urged personnel to cooperate with sister agencies, especially the Nigeria Police, and exercise caution in the use of firearms.
Residents were encouraged to remain vigilant, celebrate in moderation, and promptly report suspicious activities to the Corps or nearby security agencies.
The Commandant wished the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, and the Christian community a joyous Christmas and New Year celebration.
