NICASA Condemns Alleged Murder of Nigerian Citizen in South Africa

The Nigerian Citizens Association in South Africa (NICASA) has strongly condemned the alleged murder of 37-year-old Nigerian national, Mr. Julius Chukwunta, by four South Africans.

Chukwunta, a native of Aninri Local Government Area in Enugu State, was reportedly attacked on December 7, 2024, while driving to his residence in Midrand Protea Estate.

According to NICASA President-General, Dr. Frank Onyekwelu, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday, Chukwunta was ambushed by the four men as he approached his home.

The attackers allegedly blocked his vehicle before launching the fatal assault.

Dr. Onyekwelu expressed deep concern over the escalating violence against Nigerian nationals in South Africa, calling for swift justice in this case.

He also urged the South African authorities to take stronger measures to protect foreign nationals living in the country.

โ€œThe murder of Mr. Chukwunta is another tragic loss for our community, and we demand a thorough investigation and prosecution of the perpetrators,โ€ Dr. Onyekwelu stated. โ€œThis senseless violence must end.โ€

The tragic incident has sparked outrage among the Nigerian diaspora in South Africa, who are calling for increased security and measures to prevent further attacks on their community.

The South African authorities have yet to release a statement regarding the investigation into Chukwuntaโ€™s murder.

NICASA has pledged to continue advocating for justice for the victim and the safety of Nigerians living abroad.
