An Iyaganku Chief Magistrate’s Court in Ibadan on Tuesday ordered the remand of Naomi Silekunola, the former wife of the Ooni of Ife; Oriyomi Hamzat, Chief Executive Officer of Agidigbo FM; and Abdullahi Fasasi, Principal of Islamic High School, at the Agodi Correctional Centre.

The order followed their arraignment over last week’s stampede at a Christmas funfair held at Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan. The incident claimed 35 lives and injured six others.

Presiding Chief Magistrate Olabisi Ogunkanmi issued the remand order after the trio appeared in court under heavy security.

The police prosecutor stated that the defendants faced a four-count charge, alleging their involvement in the events that led to the tragic stampede.

These offences reportedly contravened Section 324 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

Ogunkanmi directed that the accused be remanded at Agodi Correctional Centre pending legal advice from the Oyo State Director of Public Prosecutions.

The court session attracted significant public interest, with law enforcement officers ensuring tight security as the defendants were escorted in and out of the premises.
