The Ogun State Police Command has intensified security measures to ensure the safety of residents and visitors during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
With a rise in criminal activities typically associated with the festive period, the Command has deployed personnel across the state to maintain law and order.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Omololu Odutola, confirmed the deployment of officers to critical areas, including checkpoints, high-risk zones, and locations hosting festive activities.
SP Odutola stated that both uniformed and plainclothes officers, including operatives from SWAT, Anti-Cultism, and Anti-Kidnapping units, will be actively patrolling to deter criminal activities and reassure residents of their safety.
“Key locations such as places of worship, recreation centers, government buildings, parks, banks, and diplomatic residences will have enhanced police presence. High-risk areas, including Long Bridge, Rounder, Sapaade, and Ogunmakin, will also be monitored with armored patrols,” she said.
The police also assured that officers have been trained to uphold professionalism, civility, and respect for human rights while maintaining vigilance to protect lives and property.
Odutola further emphasized the Command’s zero-tolerance policy for criminal activities, stating: “Ogun State Police Command has mobilized personnel and intelligence officers to ensure a peaceful and secure festive season. We are determined to detect and prevent any threats that may disrupt the celebrations.”
In addition, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, will oversee the operations, coordinating efforts with Area Commanders to support the deployment of 7,777 officers across Ogun State. The Command’s Operations Department is equipped to respond swiftly to any threats.
The PPRO urged members of the public to cooperate with security personnel and adhere to protocols, particularly at roadblocks set up for community safety. She also advised drivers to exercise patience and navigate roads safely.
