Abia Commences Delivery Of Transformers For Rural Electrification

The Abia State Government has commenced the delivery of the first batch of 53 transformers of various specifications, which will soon be distributed to rural communities and specific areas across the state.

The Commissioner for Power and Public Utilities, Ikechukwu Monday, disclosed this on Tuesday while conducting newsmen around the transformers procured by Governor Alex Otti at the premises of the Ministry in Umuahia.

The Commissioner explained that the distribution would be done on a first-come, first-served basis for those who had previously applied. He assured that communities not included in this phase would be considered in the next batch.

โ€œThe first batch just received, we intend to distribute it to 53 communities within the state to support them in boosting electricity supply. Thatโ€™s why we are here. This is a part of boosting the electricity infrastructure in Abia State,โ€ Monday said.

He emphasized that the distribution aligns with Governor Ottiโ€™s mandate to provide reliable electricity access to the people. He called on benefiting communities to protect the transformers and promised that the government would periodically monitor their operations.

โ€œAs you know, we will support the stakeholders in the sector to see how we can also boost infrastructure. That is the vision. Step by step, through programs like this, the electricity assets in Abia State will improve,โ€ he affirmed.
