Abia State Assembly Majority Leader and the lawmaker Representing Arochukwu State Constituency, Okoro Uchenna Kalu has commissioned borehole projects as part of promise to provide portable water in line with the needs of the communities.
The lawmaker handed over the projects at Ahia Nkwo Market, located at Obinkita in Arochukwu LGA, Abia State.
The project was commissioned by the Director-General, Greater Ohafia Development Authority (GODA), Engr. Obioma Odiom.
During the handover of the project, Okoro said the project is in line with the state governorโs agenda to make life better for communities, which is part of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6.
SDG 6.1 targets to achieve universal and equitable access to safe and affordable drinking water for all by 2030.
He said, โThis project we carried out is in keeping to our campaign promises and in support of the developmental strides of our Dear Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti.
โWith this project, we hope to solve the problem of dirty and unhygienic market environment as well as provide clean and portable water for those at the market and its environs going forward.โ
The lawmaker also flagged-off empowerment programme tagged โBusiness Support Programmeโ for women in Arochukwu communities.
The empowerment programme is designed to empower 50 women with N50,000 for their microbusinesses.
Okoro said, โWe used the occasion to flag off our Business Support Programme for women in the 3 Wards of Arochukwu Clan. The aim is to make provision for the sum of N2.5m (N50,000 each to 50 women) in these wards as grants to support them in their various forms of businesses.โ
The first beneficiaries of the programme are Mrs Kalu Oluchi Gift (Ward 1), Mrs. Ocho Ngozi Ruth (Ward 2) and Mrs. Ezinne Chukwuma Sarah (Ward 3).
The lawmaker said 47 other beneficiaries will receive their money.
During the event, Amb. Ogbu Sunday pledged to take care of the school fees of three indigent pupils (Primary or Secondary) throughout the year 2025.
