TARABA: Troops arrest Boko Haram terrorist, recover weapons

TROOPS from the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army/Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have apprehended a suspected Boko Haram terrorist in the Garba Chede community of Bali Local Government Area in Taraba State.

The suspect, identified as Nura Yakubu, was arrested based on reliable intelligence.

Investigations revealed that Yakubu, a food vendor, was involved in sheltering Boko Haram terrorists who were sent to Taraba State for terrorist activities.

According to a press release from Captain Olubodunde Oni, the Acting Assistant Director of 6 Brigade Army Public Relations, further investigations linked Yakubu and his associates to the kidnapping of a businessman named Arinze and the son of Alhaji Ibrahim in the Garbatau community of Bali Local Government Area.

Additionally, following the kidnapping of a district head in the Jalingo Local Government Area on November 27, 2024, and his subsequent release after a ransom was paid, troops increased intelligence-driven operations to track down the perpetrators.

This effort resulted in the arrest of Musa Suito on December 18, 2024, in the Jalingo metropolis. Suito, a member of a vigilante group providing security for prominent individuals, used his position to gather information on potential kidnapping targets.

Items recovered from him included a Dane gun and two cartridges.

In light of these developments, the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of lives and property throughout Taraba State and beyond. They are calling for public support in this endeavor.

โ€œWe urge the public to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to strengthen the fight against criminal elements,โ€ Oni stated in the press release.
