The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has denied involvement in investigating allegations by online personality Vincent Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), that over N180 million meant for his non-governmental organization (NGO) was stolen.
According to a report by Vanguard, VDM claimed that the funds, raised for his Martins Vincent Osei Initiative, were stolen after the NGO’s account was hacked.
In October, Otse launched the initiative, garnering over N35 million in donations within hours.
The fundraising effort received a significant boost when renowned music producer Michael Collins Ajereh, also known as Don Jazzy, contributed N100 million.
However, Otse later announced that the NGO’s app had been shut down for maintenance to prevent further security breaches.
He also stated that he was traveling to Jos after identifying one of the alleged hackers and had reported the case to the police.
Despite these claims, the FCT Police Command has distanced itself from the matter.
The Command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, clarified, “The FCT Police Command has no information regarding any missing funds involving VDM, nor is there any ongoing investigation into the matter. The individual concerned should be contacted directly for details on where the case was reported, as we have no record of such a case with our command.”
VDM has pledged to keep the public informed about developments regarding the alleged theft, urging supporters to remain patient as efforts to recover the funds continue.
The alleged theft has sparked widespread concern and discussions about financial security for NGOs and the need for robust cybersecurity measures.
