The Kano State Government has enrolled prisoners in its healthcare contributory scheme to ensure access to free and quality medical services.
The Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS), Kano Command, CSC Musbahu Kofar-Nasarawa, disclosed this in a press statement on Monday.
According to Kofar-Nasarawa, the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Healthcare Management Agency (KHMA), Dr. Rahila Aliyu-Mukhtar, made the announcement during her visit to the State Controller of Corrections, Mr. Ado Salisu.
Aliyu-Mukhtar stated that the initiative, approved by Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf, seeks to improve the welfare of inmates, and to provide them with free access to both basic and comprehensive healthcare services.
“The health and medical welfare of inmates are essential for efficient custodial management, as well as for their effective reformation, rehabilitation, and reintegration,” she said.
Aliyu-Mukhtar also reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting inmates medically during their time in custody and urged them to pray for the governor’s continued delivery of democratic dividends.
In response, the Controller of Corrections, Kano State Command, Mr. Ado Salisu, expressed gratitude to the state government for its ongoing support.
Salisu stated that the gesture would inspire inmates to embrace reformation and contribute positively to society upon their release.
