The Kaduna Police on Tuesday arraigned a 19-year-old, Raymond Patrick, before a Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stabbing his uncle, Amos Dogo, during an altercation.
Patrick, a resident of Narayi, Kaduna, is facing a two-count charge of assault and causing grievous harm, offences which contravene the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
According to the prosecutor, Inspector Chidi Leo, the incident happened on December 27 at about 11:30 a.m. at their shared residence.
Leo stated that Patrick, who is said to regularly drink alcohol and insult neighbours, was confronted by his uncle in an attempt to address his behaviour.
“The uncle sat him down for advice, which led to an argument. Patrick then attacked him, and stabbed him on the shoulder and back,” Leo told the court, adding that Dogo was rushed to the hospital for medical treatment following the attack.
Patrick pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The magistrate said the sureties must be blood relatives residing within the court’s jurisdiction, gainfully employed, and have evidence of tax payments to the Kaduna State Government.
The case was adjourned until January 21, 2025, for hearing.
