Rev. Father Joseph Enyinaya, a Catholic priest, has been arrested for allegedly shooting a young boy dead after the boy reportedly threw a firecracker (banger) into St. Columbus Catholic Church, Amaimo, Ikeduru Local Government Area, Imo State.
The incident occurred on December 31, prompting swift police action.
Residents alleged that the priest pulled out a revolver and fired at the boy inside the church premises.
Confirming the arrest, Imo police spokesperson Henry Okoye told The Nation on Thursday, “The priest has been arrested, and the body of the boy has been recovered and deposited at Atta Ikeduru Mortuary.”
Okoye further assured the public of a thorough investigation.
“The police investigation is expected to shed more light on the events leading up to the incident,” he stated.
