Authorities in Borno State have successfully averted a potential explosion following the recovery of three projectiles in Maiduguri, the state capital.
The discovery was made in the Dala Kafanti area, where a local resident, Asabe James, reported sighting a suspicious sack behind her house early Thursday morning.
Acting swiftly on the report, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) team of the Borno State Police Command cordoned off the area and secured the items.
“Preliminary investigations reveal that the ordnance was dropped by unknown persons in the first flush of the morning,” the state police spokesperson, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, said in a statement.
The Borno Police Command, led by Commissioner of Police Yusufu Mohammed Lawal, reassured residents of their safety, urging calm and vigilance.
To prevent future incidents, community members were sensitized on Explosive Ordnance Risk Awareness (EORE) and provided with safety measures.
The command also issued a list of safety tips, urging the public to report suspicious objects or activities promptly and to avoid touching or moving potentially explosive materials.
“The Borno State Commissioner of Police further reassures the Command’s commitment to ensuring public safety and security,” the statement added.
Emergency contacts were also provided for quick reporting of any suspicious occurrences.
This incident underscores the ongoing challenges in maintaining security in the North-East region, but the swift response of the authorities highlights their readiness to mitigate threats.
