Eight passengers were injured in a road accident involving a commercial bus, commonly known as “Molue,” on Friday at Hammadiya inward Abule-Egba, Lagos, leading to significant traffic disruption.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed that the incident occurred due to excessive speed and driver impatience.
LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs, Adebayo Taofiq, explained that the bus, registered as KTU 801 XM, lost control while trying to avoid colliding with another commercial vehicle and pedestrians at the roadside.
The driver veered sharply, crashing into the median and overturning. Eight individuals, including five males and three females, were injured, with the driver suffering a fractured left arm.
LASTMA officials and emergency responders, including LASAMBUS medical personnel, quickly arrived at the scene, providing immediate care to the victims and transporting them to the General Hospital at Ile-Epo.
LASTMA’s Response Unit worked efficiently to clear the overturned bus and restore traffic flow, with support from officers of the Meran Police Division.
LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, extended his sympathies to the injured passengers and called for greater adherence to traffic regulations, particularly speed limits, urging drivers to maintain their vehicles to prevent similar accidents.
Traffic was later restored after the rescue and clearance operations.
