Counsel to the former Managing Director of the Kano Agricultural Supply Company (KASCO), Tahir Ibrahim, has accused the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) of flouting court orders in a case involving his client, Bala Mohammed.
Ibrahim, who represents Mohammed, urged the Chairman of the PCACC, Muhuyi Rimin-Gado, to adhere to a court ruling that had vacated an order allowing the confiscation of his client’s assets.
This latest controversy comes as the PCACC investigates Mohammed for alleged financial mismanagement during his tenure at KASCO.
Speaking to reporters on Friday evening, Ibrahim condemned the actions of the anti-corruption agency.
“We are urging Muhuyi to respect the court’s decision and let the officials carry out their duties according to the law.
The court has already vacated the order allowing him to seize Bala Inuwa’s properties,” Ibrahim said.
The lawyer accused Rimin-Gado of undermining the judicial process by refusing to comply with the court’s directives. “Muhuyi does not have the authority to confiscate Mohammed’s properties.
He must follow the court order, which instructed that all of Mohammed’s bank accounts be unfrozen, the police leave his company, Limestone Processing Company, and that a N3 million fine be paid as damages,” Ibrahim emphasized.
Ibrahim further stressed the importance of upholding the rule of law, asserting that the actions of the PCACC were an abuse of the court process. “We are also calling on the police to comply with the law, as no one is above it. Peace can only exist where the rule of law prevails,” he added.
In response, Rimin-Gado fired back, alleging that Ibrahim and a police officer had colluded to fraudulently obtain a court order to recover the confiscated assets, all while an investigation into the alleged misappropriation of N4 billion by Mohammed was still ongoing.
He denied knowledge of any such court order.
