The Commissioner of Police (CP) in Ondo State, Mr. Wilfred Afolabi, has arrested 19 suspects connected to the violent cult clash that happened in Owo, Owo Local Government Area, on Monday.
Addressing newsmen in Akure on Tuesday during his official resumption as the 45th Ondo CP, Afolabi confirmed that four people lost their lives in the incident.
The newly deployed police chief assured the public of his commitment to restoring order and ensuring the victimsโ justice.
โThose arrested will be made to face the full wrath of the law,โ Afolabi stated.
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa imposed a dawn-to-dusk curfew in Owo on Monday to curb further violence and restore peace to the area.
Speaking on the compliance level during a visit to Owo on Tuesday, Afolabi said, โSo far, so good, normalcy has returned to the town, and there is calm and peace across the area. We have 19 suspects in our custody, and we have only four people confirmed dead in our records.โ
The CP stressed that a thorough investigation is underway to uncover the root cause of the clash.
He further reassured the residents of Ondo State, particularly those in Owo, of the commandโs dedication to safeguarding lives and properties.
โFor the lovers of peace, we can assure them of a conducive environment. But for those who hate peace, they will not find it easy because wherever they go, we will follow them, and the laws of the land will catch up with them,โ Afolabi warned.
