Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has arrested a teacher identified as Stella Nwadigo for repeatedly assaulting a 3-year-old pupil, Abayomi Michael, while attempting to teach him how to write numbers.
A viral footage online showed the teacher of Christ-Mitots School in Ikorodu, repeatedly hitting one Abayomi who was standing in front of her table.
The disturbing video has sparked public outrage, leading to swift intervention by the Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency.
The agency, in a statement, confirmed the teacherโs arrest, highlighting the stateโs commitment to protecting children from abuse.
It added that further investigations are underway to ensure justice for the young boy and prevent such incidents in the future.
โWe appreciate everyone who brought the disturbing incident of a teacher who was recorded physically abusing a 3-year-old boy to our attention.
โWe are pleased to inform the public that the teacher in question has been arrested by Owutu FSU, and an investigation has commenced in earnest. Indeed, institutions of learning should be safe, warm, and protective environments for all children in their care.
โThe State Government remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of every child by enforcing strict regulations, holding offenders accountable, and working with stakeholders to promote a zero-tolerance policy for abuse in any form,โ it said.
