The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Olufemi Oluyede, has announced the appointment of new General Officers Commanding (GOCs), Principal Staff Officers (PSOs), Corps Commanders, and a Commander for the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF).
The move aims to boost operational effectiveness and administrative efficiency in tackling Nigeria’s security challenges.
The newly appointed GOCs include Major General OT Olatoye, who moves from the Nigerian Army School of Infantry to command the 82 Division and the Joint Task Force South East Operation Udoka, and Major General EF Oyinlola, assigned to head the 3 Division and Operation Safe Haven.
Other GOCs with confirmed acting appointments are Major General AGL Haruna for the 7 Division and Sector 1 of Operation Hadin Kai, and Major General IA Ajose, heading the 8 Division and Sector 2 of Operation Fasan Yanma.
Major General GM Mutkut is now the Force Commander of the MNJTF, while Major General GO Adeshina becomes the Director General of the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre.
Prominent PSO appointments include Major General LA Fejokwu as Chief of Administration, Major General GU Chibuisi as Chief of Civil Military Affairs, and Major General AS Ndalolo as Chief of Training.
Major General OS Abai now serves as Chief of Transformation and Innovation, while Major General JH Abdussalam assumes the role of Chief of Special Services and Programmes. Major General EI Okoro takes over as Military Secretary (Army).
Senior officers appointed as Corps Commanders include Major General OC Ajunwa for the Armour Corps, Major General HT Wesley for the Ordnance Corps, and Major General TT Numbere for the Engineers Corps.
Commandants were also reshuffled, with Major General UM Alkali appointed as Commandant of the Army War College and Major General AB Mohammed now leading the Depot Nigerian Army.
In a statement, the Director of Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, said, “The Chief of Army Staff has directed all newly appointed senior officers to bring renewed vigour, dedication, and commitment to their duties, particularly while ensuring the sustenance of the ongoing onslaught against terrorism, insurgency, and other threats to national security.”
He also emphasised that the welfare of troops must remain a priority as the officers assume their new roles.
The reshuffling, he noted, reflects the Nigerian Army’s commitment to maintaining a dynamic leadership structure capable of addressing emerging security challenges effectively.
