Lagos State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, has appealed to residents of Lagos to actively report infractions and contribute to the state’s sustainable development.
He made the call during a strategic planning meeting held in Alausa recently, emphasizing that proper urban planning cannot be achieved without the involvement and support of the public.
“Proper planning cannot be done without the support and contribution of the people. This is why my doors are always open for residents of Lagos to make their complaints, report any observed untoward developments, and contribute generally to the sustainable development of the State,” Dr. Olumide stated.
He assured the public of the ministry’s commitment to carrying out its regulatory responsibilities impartially and without bias.
He urged Lagosians to promptly escalate any infractions they come across to ensure a well-organized and sustainable environment for all.
“Officers of the Ministry and its agencies have been advised to remain conscientious and not support illegality, as any officer found culpable would be dealt with according to laid-down rules and regulations,” Dr. Olumide added.
To facilitate easy reporting, the commissioner highlighted various channels through which residents can submit complaints, including direct reports to his office, the Lagos MPP&UD App available on Google and iOS platforms, and the ministry’s hotlines: 07030653241 and 08034698264.
He further stressed that whistleblowers would be protected by the state, acknowledging their critical role in fostering a liveable, organized, and sustainable physical environment.
The call for greater public involvement comes as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance urban planning and address issues like illegal construction and environmental degradation in Lagos.
