The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with assaults and sexual offences against minors.
This was disclosed in a press statement made available to journalists on Monday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar.
The statement revealed that on January 5, 2025, at about 4:00 PM, a 19-year-old suspect, Kalifa Ibrahim, of Gwazange area, Argungu, allegedly enticed an 8-year-old girl, Rukayya Umar, to a hidden location and sexually assaulted her.
Abubakar said earlier the same day, at about 12:30 PM, another suspect, Abdullahi Abubakar, aged 32, of Gwandu town, reportedly lured a 4-year-old girl, Fatima Abubakar, into an uncompleted building, where a similar offense was allegedly committed.
In a related case, on January 6, 2025, at about 11:20 AM, police arrested Fahad Kabiru, was arrested for impregnated one Hafsat Sa’idu a 16-year-old girl.
The statement said, “On the 5th of January 2025, at about 1600 hrs, one Kalifa Ibrahim ‘M’ aged 19 yrs of the Gwazange area, Argungu, enticed one Rukayya Umar ‘F’ aged 8 yrs of the same address, to a hidden area and had sexual intercourse with her.
“On receipt of the complaint, a team of policemen responded promptly and arrested the suspect.
“In the same vein, on the 5th of January, 2025, at about 1230, the suspect, one Abdullahi Abubakar ‘m’ aged 32yrs of Gwandu town, lured one Fatima Abubakar ‘f’ aged 4yrs of the same address, to an uncompleted building and had sexual intercourse with her. Investigation into the case is ongoing.
“Similarly, on the 6th of January, 2025, at about 1120 hrs, one Okada rider named Fahad Kabiru ‘M’ of Gesse Phase 1, Birnin Kebbi, impregnated one Hafsat Sa’idu ‘f’ aged 16 yrs. The suspect has been arrested and confessed to the crime.”
The PPRO further noted that the Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Bello Sani, had directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police, State Criminal Investigation Department, to conduct a thorough investigation of the cases and ensure diligent prosecution accordingly.
The CP however called on residents of Kebbi to always watch over their children and be conscious of the people entrusted with their children.
