Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), has directed the implementation of specialized training programs for police officers across Nigeria, focusing on human rights, ethical conduct, and professionalism.
Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) spokesperson, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, following a virtual conference held by the IGP with senior police managers, including tactical commanders, commissioners of police, and assistant inspectors-general of police.
Egbetokun emphasized the importance of equipping criminal investigation department (CID) investigators to handle complex and high-profile cases effectively. “The training aims to bolster the efficiency and thoroughness of the force’s investigative capabilities,” the IGP said.
The training courses will cover areas such as community policing, proportional use of force, and attitudinal change to maintain professional standards.
To sustain these efforts, weekly lectures will be held at all levels of the force, including divisional and state commands.
“These lectures will focus on legal frameworks, best practices in policing, and advancements in law enforcement technology while fostering interactive discussions for continuous improvement,” the statement read.
Egbetokun also urged strategic managers to be proactive in upholding public peace and order.
He highlighted the need for accountability, warning that supervisors would be held responsible for their subordinates’ actions to build public trust.
The IGP reiterated the police force’s commitment to serving the public with integrity, respect, and professionalism, underscoring that these initiatives aim to reshape the culture within the Nigeria Police Force.
