Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has expressed sympathy for victims of a devastating fire that ravaged Ahịa Mgbede, near the New Motor Spare Parts Market in Nnewi.
The fire, which broke out in the early hours of Tuesday, destroyed numerous shops and goods worth millions of naira. The cause of the incident remains unknown.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, Soludo described the incident as a tragic event that left many business owners facing immense hardship.
The statement read, “Soludo lamented that the tragic event has resulted in significant loss of property and livelihood for numerous business owners, plunging them into immense hardship and despair.”
The governor commended the swift response of the Anambra State Fire Service and other emergency teams, whose efforts helped minimise the damage.
He also urged market leaders and business owners across the state to prioritise fire safety.
“Soludo urged market leaders and business owners across the state to always exercise caution and adhere to fire safety guidelines to prevent such tragic occurrences,” the statement added.
