The National Assembly Joint Committee on Finance has cleared the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) of allegations of financial misappropriation during its 2024 budget implementation.
Senator Sani Musa, the chairman of the committee, issued a statement on Thursday, addressing accusations that JAMB engaged in reckless spending.
He explained that the allegations, which included claims of N1.1 billion spent on meals and N850 million on fumigation, were based on erroneous interpretations of budgetary items submitted by JAMB.
The controversy emerged during a budget defense session involving JAMB’s Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede.
Despite attempts by Prof. Oloyede to clarify the expenditures, the committee initially demanded further details of JAMB’s 2024 and 2025 budgetary appropriations and spending.
Following a comprehensive review of the documents, Senator Musa stated that there was no evidence of mismanagement or misuse of funds.
Instead, the report showcased JAMB’s financial prudence under Prof. Oloyede’s leadership.
“For clarity, the report provided by JAMB indicated that the line items mentioned during Monday’s hearing on revenue did not suggest any mismanagement. On the contrary, it highlighted the responsible and prudent use of resources,” Musa said.
The senator commended the registrar for demonstrating financial discipline and effective resource management, describing JAMB’s leadership as a model for public institutions nationwide.
