No fewer than 1,075 people were rescued from road accidents in Lagos State in 2024, according to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
During the year under review, 2,051 road traffic incidents were recorded, involving 3,754 vehicles. These incidents were categorised into 143 fatal accidents, 502 severe accidents, and 1,406 minor accidents.
In a statement released on Friday, LASTMA disclosed that it resolved 5,108 cases of vehicular breakdowns within the year. The breakdown cases included 423 cars, 746 buses, 219 SUVs, 1,649 trucks, 400 tankers, 535 trailers, and 1,118 other vehicles.
Earlier in the year, LASTMA launched a toll-free hotline (080000527862) to enable Lagosians to report traffic obstructions, vehicular breakdowns, emergencies, and the conduct of LASTMA personnel.
The hotline received 3,567 calls in multiple languages, including English, Pidgin, and Yoruba. Out of these, over 3,450 cases were resolved promptly, while 117 cases were escalated for further attention.
Additionally, the introduction of the Physical Complaint Centre (PCC) resulted in 2,056 physical complaints being lodged. Of these, 1,968 cases were successfully addressed, while 88 cases were referred for advanced resolution.
